Trees
The benefits of adding trees to your landscape or garden are many. Aside from visual appeal, trees offer privacy and noise-reduction. By providing shade in the summer and wind protection in the winter, trees can reduce heating and cooling costs. They also absorb pollutants and promote biodiversity in your yard. A well-landscaped yard with mature trees can also increase property value up to 19%. We carry a large stock and variety of Trees at our Nursery in Bedford, MA. We also deliver to the Boston MetroWest areas. See below for examples of a few of our tree varieties.
Tree Categories
There are four primary categories of outdoor trees that we sell. Deciduous, Evergreen, Coniferous, and Fruit. All of the trees we sell as considered "hardy" trees. Hardy trees and plants refer to the plant's ability to tolerate and survive the local climate including cold, heat, drought, flooding, or wind.
Deciduous Trees: These trees shed their leaves annually, usually in the fall. Examples include oak, maple, and birch. Deciduous trees are known for their vibrant autumn colors and are commonly found in temperate regions.
Evergreen Trees: Evergreens retain their leaves throughout the year, providing constant greenery regardless of the season. Examples include pine, spruce, and holly. These trees are often used for privacy screens and year-round landscaping.
Coniferous Trees: A subset of evergreens, coniferous trees have needle-like or scale-like leaves and produce cones. Examples include fir, cedar, and redwood. Conifers are well-suited to colder climates and are prized for their wood and resin.
Fruit Trees: These trees produce edible fruits and are often cultivated for their yield. Examples include apple, cherry, and orange trees. Fruit trees can enhance a garden by providing fresh produce and attracting pollinators like bees and butterflies.

Shrubs
The benefits of adding shrubs to your landscape are similar to trees in that they improve the visual appeal, energy savings, and property value of your home. They are also great at creating privacy screening, formal hedges, and natural borders. Additionally, shrubs offer seasonal interest with foliage color, flowers, and/or berries. We carry a large stock and variety of shrubs at our Nursery in Bedford, MA. We also deliver to the Boston MetroWest areas. See below for examples of a few of our favorite shrub varieties.
Shrub Categories
We carry a great variety of shrubs at New England Nurseries. While some shrubs, like trees, can cross into more than one category (E.g. a fruiting raspberry shrub is also deciduous) we're going to look at the various categories individually.
Deciduous Shrubs: These shrubs shed their leaves annually in the fall. They often provide seasonal interest with vibrant autumn foliage and spring/summer blooms.
Evergreen Shrubs: Evergreen shrubs retain their foliage year-round, providing consistent greenery and structure in the landscape.
Flowering Shrubs: Known for their colorful and often fragrant blooms, these shrubs add visual and sensory appeal to gardens.
Fruiting Shrubs: These shrubs produce edible fruits, which can be harvested and enjoyed. They also attract wildlife, such as birds and pollinators.
Native Shrubs: Native shrubs are indigenous to a specific region and are adapted to local climate and soil conditions. They often require less maintenance and support local wildlife.
Dwarf Shrubs: Dwarf shrubs are smaller in size, making them ideal for compact spaces, borders, and container gardening.
Hedge Shrubs: These shrubs are used primarily for creating hedges and privacy screens. They are often dense and can be pruned into formal shapes.

Annuals
The terms annual vs. perennial can be confusing. Which one keeps coming back every year? The word annual means year. Annuals live for only one year (or one growing season). Even with a one-season life span, annuals are a great choice for many reasons. They are fast-growing and often bloom (boasting vivid colors) all the way up until frost sets in, sometimes beyond. They are often less expensive and provide a refreshing change to your garden beds and landscape. We carry a variety of annuals for each season.

Annuals are often categorized by their light preferences or season in which they grow. Another way to consider annuals in by their use or your particular need. See some examples below.

By Light Requirements: Full Sun Annuals (E.g. Marigolds, Zinnias, Sunflowers); Partial Sun/Shade Annuals (E.g. Impatiens, Begonias, Lobelia); and Shade Annuals (E.g. Coleus, Caladium, Fuchsia)
